LAST WORDS FOR MAY 2019

Sunday 26th. May 2019,

Easter 6

Rogation Sunday - 2019

Today, is Rogation Sunday, when we consider what blessings we need to ask of God for the year ahead.

In country parishes it was , and in some cases, still is, traditional for the people to hold special services when they would walk around the boundaries of the villages and the vicar would ask a blessing on the crops for a future harvest that year.

In Matthew 7. 7, Jesus tells us, ‘Ask and you will receive.”  But,  He suggested that if our children asked us for something they wanted, but we knew it would be bad for them, good parents, would not give it to them. In the same way, God our Father knows what is best for us and although as I believe, He always answers prayers, He does so in a way that He knows is right for us.

In John’s Gospel 14. 14 Jesus says, ‘If you ask Me for anything in My name, I will do it.’

The key words here are, ‘in My name’. If anyone puts his or her name to anything, he or she, must agree with it first. Jesus needs to approve our requests if they are to be answered.

I have found a prayer written by an ‘Unknown Confederate soldier’, which I have shared with you at other times because it is  helpful to use for meditation when wondering for what we should ask..

I asked for strength that I might achieve.   I was made weak made weak that I might learn humbly to obey.

I asked for health that I might do greater things.  I was given infirmity that I might do better things.

I asked for riches that I might be happy,  I was given poverty that I might be wise.

I asked for power that I might have the praise of men.   I was given weakness that I might feel the need for God.

I asked for all things that I might enjoy life.   I was given life that I might enjoy all things

I got nothing I asked for, but everything that I hoped for.

Almost  despite myself my unspoken prayers were answered.

I am, among all men, most richly blessed.

Remember that Jesus asked the Father to take away His coming suffering. The Father gave Him Spiritual support to endure and because of His Passion  we are reconciled to God and inherit eternal life.

May we trust in God our Father to answer our

prayers and to bless us all, but always in the way H

e knows best.

Many Blessings,        Marian, S. C. L.

I                    It is coming up to a year since mum and                  Claire's passing and I miss them every day. But the Easter message brings  hope and joy to all in bereavement. All in Heaven and on Earth rejoice in this special time, united in praise and thanksgiving. After the pain and loss of Holy week that first Easter morning with the Resurrection of our Lord and Saviour a new life began for us all.

The loss His friends and family must have felt. Hopes had been dashed, a sense of futility must have encompassed them when they remembered the last three years of their mission with Jesus. An overwhelming sense of darkness, fear and aloneness must have overshadowed them.

There would also have been feelings of guilt and remorse and thoughts of how things could have been done differently and did they let down Him Who was their constant friend, Lord and Teacher. How could they go on without Him?

Those of us in bereavement know only too well these feelings. But we remember that in their darkest hour, our Lord came to His friends and said, "Peace be with you!" The Risen Lord comes to us today sayings, "Peace be with you! Do not be afraid, I have over come death. Believe in me always. I have gone to prepare a place for you. Until then the Holy Spirit will come to you and empower you to go forward and share this Good news. After the pain and loss comes healing, peace, and new life, a new commission. Serve me now until that day when you all will be united in Eternity with me.

So speak to me in prayer every day. Talk to your loved ones, they are only a thought away. Share this faith so that others may be comforted and remember the joy portrayed in your life is the greatest witness of my Resurrection. Live and let others live with you. Joy comes every morning."

May we know the presence of the Risen Lord again with us this Easter and thank you all for your love caring and support through this last very difficult year. Please pray for me in the new life and commission I am beginning in June.

Many Blessings,

    Marian S.C.L.
